About Us

SDCD provides quality service dogs to children with special needs in the Western United States. Training is customized to meet the individual needs of each child and adheres to industry principles and standards. Our training program was formed as part of the American Canine Institute and is headed by professional dog trainers with more than 20 years of experience.

People Standing with Dogs

While training each dog, we work closely with physicians, physical therapists, and counselors to ensure that we meet each child's treatment goals. In fact, we go above and beyond what the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires. Our board is comprised of two trainers, a veterinarian, a lawyer, a pediatrician, a banker, and a physical therapist.

We also work closely with 4-H clubs in order to provide foster homes for the dogs while in training. We try to use rescue dogs whenever possible. Our service dogs receive a minimum of 260 hours of training, and most go well beyond 260 hours, depending on the type of training needed.

Because we work on a sliding scale fee, we are able to provide service dogs to families no matter their financial situation. It is important that our clients have the dogs they need to ensure their child's needs are met. Learn More About Us»
